Your 1999 Overview
Aries: March 21 - April 19
After two and a half years of fairly strong planetary energy testing your mettle, you are beginning to wonder when it would be your turn for a good year. Aries, that turn has arrived—1999 should exceed your greatest dreams! You were at the point of giving up, but as mother used to say, it is always darkest before the dawn. 1999 will go down as a legendary year for you by anyone's estimate but you will have to be unusually decisive and quick to act. If you hesitate, you will drop the ball and this small but precious window of luck will close, not to open up as brightly for another decade. To make sure this does not happen, get your wish list ready and prioritize what you want. The world wants your energetic vision, enthusiastic leadership, and pioneering spirit more than ever, Aries, and this year they're even willing to pay for it!
Saturn, the planet in charge of hard work and maturity, has been touring Aries since April 1996. During that time, extra responsibility was heaped on you, and you learned a great deal about life and how things work. If you were naive, you certainly aren't that way anymore. The lessons of Saturn stay with you, so you will be finding your newfound maturity quite helpful as you forge ahead in new directions. The biggest change is your ability to get organized and follow through in a responsible manner. Things don't just fall into place by themselves, and you know this to be true on deeper level these days. You now realize you have to shepherd your endeavors through channels more deliberately. Your ability to handle detail has sharpened too, something you never had a taste for before. You have a new pragmatic and sensible perspective others find attractive. This marked a change of image for you, adding polish and patina to your brash, energetic, but somewhat scattered way of approaching life.
Saturn is done with your cosmic course in maturity on March 1, and you will surely feel the relief through nearly immediate lessening of tensions this spring. Saturn won't be back for 30 years, and when it does return, its hold on you will be far looser, simply because by then you will have even more life experience and will less in need of Saturn's tutoring. While Saturn was on your Sun, the road ahead was long and tedious and you may have felt there was not much hope for change. However, there is a twist of fate coming up that will astound you in ways you cannot imagine now, and all of the changes it will bring are so upbeat they'll take your breath away!
The movement of Saturn out of Aries alone would be enough to make you jump for joy, for your deepest fears are starting to melt away and you have more confidence. But wait—there's even better news in store! Jupiter, the planet of gifts and luck, now moves into Aries for the first time in 12 years. Darth Vader (Saturn) moves out, and Santa Clause (Jupiter) moves in—yippee! Do you see what is going on here? Usually Jupiter stays for a year, but dear Aries, 1999 is unusual in that Jupiter won't stay quite as long as it should. The up side is that although Jupiter is moving at breakneck speed, it will be in very powerful (direct) mode during the first half of the year. Jupiter will enter Aries on February 13 and stay until June 27 when it will zoom into Taurus.
While Jupiter will reverse (retrograde) into to Aries in late October, it is not until late December that Jupiter will assume it's strongest, forward, and direct motion in your sign. Thus, from December 20, 1999 to February 14, 2000 you will again have another powerful shot at Jupiter's benefits. A shower of radiant luck this powerful is very rare in a horoscope, so be ready, Aries!
If you were born in the early or middle part of Aries (March 21 through April 14) you will find the first half of the year your very best. If you are born the last week of Aries (April 15-19) you may have to wait longer for the full force of goodness to come to you—the end of the year into early next year—but the universe is going to single you out, late-born Aries, for extraordinary gain. Here's why: Jupiter begins to retrograde in late degrees of Aries (these are your degrees) and when it turns direct, it will crisscross over the degrees of your Sun three times, signifying a full and complete life transformation. Because it is Jupiter creating them, all the changes you experience will be extraordinarily good and so special you may later say they are "pure miracles."
This all the more revolutionary because Aries born April 15-19 were hit hardest last year (1998). The contrast will be remarkable and quite gratifying. There is reason to think those of you born in the later degrees of Aries (April 15-19) are due for some amazing developments. The annual birthday new moon you receive on April 16, 1999 is at 25 degrees Aries, prophecizing the coming changes in your life. Note what happens on that new moon (or in the days that follow) for it will forecast what's to come in the next weeks and months.
If you are an Aries born earlier in the sign, you will have to act fast—from mid-February through mid-March—for best luck. Ordinarily, you would have more time, but since your ruler Mars is in cranky retrograde from mid-March onward, your window of opportunity is slim. This makes it no less impressive, though. I am telling you now you to get ready because you are going "on the air" shortly! By that I mean that there is no time for stage fright or fumbling with your notes. You've got to hit your marks and shine!
It's a case of now or never! (Well, as long as there's life there's hope, but anything this extraordinary should be jumped on, Aries!), As you read this, be sure you have your priorities straight and be ready to shoot for your greatest goals. Don't let anyone talk you out of getting what you want and need right now. Waiting a year or two won't get you any closer to your prize. You must and should insist on gratification now. You should be as clear and direct about this, because you will have the ear of some very powerful people. My vote for your best day of the year (possibly the decade!) is April 1, when Jupiter and the Sun join hands on your behalf. That date has a plus or minus impact of a few days on either side and is a very important point in your time line. As I pointed out earlier, the new moon on April 16 is a key portal to a better life, too.
Is there any down side to having Jupiter on your Sun? Yes, it does add substantial weight to your frame. This is the year you will have to be vigilant about fitness or you'll lose "the battle of the bulge" altogether! It will be the toughest of 12 years to keep your body fat under control. Develop your fitness plan now before those extra pounds show up! It will be easier to prevent them than to get rid of them after they're gained!
Mars, your ruler will arch over the upper regions of your chart all year, suggesting a public role is due for you in 1999. Mars remains in a financial sector for seven months—your 8th sector of other people's money—which is a very long time for such a trend. Unfortunately, it looks like you will be tearing through cash at a record rate and if you aren't careful, you could rack up a debt that even brave and brash Aries finds frightening. Aries is the entrepreneurial sign, so you may be in the midst of raising venture capital. If so, your investors will definitely ask that you do your "due diligence" and they will put strict controls in place for you. Don't balk—they may be doing you a favor.
Yet Mars in the 8th sector can create difficulties with taxes or credit card companies too, so easy does it, Aries. If you have been financially prudent, honest, and straightforward, you will have nothing to fear. Instead, you may be reassessing insurance for your car, health or life, or decide to buy fire or homeowner's insurance. You may be figuring out how to make a big investment in your future. You could run into a conflict over an inheritance, royalty or commission, too. If you do, it appears to finally get settled in the fall of 1999.
Saturn will move into Taurus in March and is set to stay a couple of years and it appears you will have to work very hard for the money you make (what else is new?). It is, however, likely to be the most money you've ever seen, or even imagined you'd ever make. You still have to prove yourself at a higher level. You will get the chance to show what you can do and wind up showing off your abilities brilliantly. By the time Saturn leaves this sector in 2001 you will be positioned to make even more money, because you will have learned a few things from Saturn in the process. Be happy that you are going to be making much more money in 1999 even though, considering your effort, initially your employer is going to get the better part of the bargain. Remind yourself that you have a bright future, with the promise of much more cash to come in just two years.
Your career clicks into place early on this year, at the new moon on January 17 and from mid-October to the end of November. The whole year promises luck in this regard, including the aforementioned hefty financial gains—particularly from June 28-October 22, when Jupiter moves into your solar 2nd sector of earned income for the first time in 12 years. The optimism this generates in you may tempt you to spend and actually spell financial disaster if you over extend yourself in the area of credit, loans, or taxes.
Travel and important developments in higher education will be key elements in 1999 because Jupiter in Aries, rules your natural 9th sector of foreign travel and the influence of foreign people in your life. Because your ruler Mars moves into this sector from September to the first two weeks of October, things are likely to crystallize at that time. The new moon on June 13 and the full moon on December 22, 1999 are other "valve points" in the year when good news is likely to come your way.
Love is in your chart, too, for when Jupiter graces your sign, so often a soul mate shows up that very same year. My vote for out-of-this-world most romantic date is February 23 when Venus and Jupiter join hands.
Added to this overall backdrop is the movement of the eclipses in Leo-Aquarius, both falling in your sector of romance and in friendship, respectively. The first eclipses fall on January 31 and February 16, then again in the summer, July 31 and August 11.
The biggest eclipse of 1999 comes on August 11. It is the total eclipse of the Sun, falling in your 5th sector of true love. Eclipses investigate what's going on in your life (in this case, your romantic life)—creativity, and issues surrounding children and pregnancy—and bring to the surface any conditions you have not been dealing with directly. Eclipses present you with facts. In some cases, flaws in your own nature are brought to the fore, and in other cases, truths about people you are intimately involved with. If your romantic relationship is basically sound, the eclipses this year might just advance it to the next level of closeness—and more quickly than you ever thought possible.
However, if you are in a relationship that can only be called toxic, then you will experience a melt down of near-catastrophic proportions, either at the end of January or on an even bigger, more atomic-bomb level in August. Yikes! Do yourself a favor and detach yourself from negative, manipulative people, so that the eclipses will have a little less work to do. Remember that this is your year, the year Jupiter blesses Aries, so you have not a moment to lose. Don't waste these golden vibes! You won't be able to hang on to this person any longer, and good riddance if the relationship washes out with the tides. It will clear your path to better, stronger relationships in the future by giving you closure. With Jupiter on your Sun, you can and will find someone much better for you rather quickly.
A new romantic attachment may show up if you are currently unattached. Remember that the eclipses in January and in August are in Leo, a fire sign like yours, indicating that whoever shows up is friendly—even if it doesn't feel that way initially. Wait and see. Eclipses bring upheaval and surprise through unexpected revelations, just like a bright light shining into the most romantic and tender matters of your heart.
Sex is a bigger force in 1999 than love for you, puzzling your astrologer. I am wondering if enough emotional attachment and feeling will be forming the underpinnings of your relationship. Perhaps they do—only you would know! Passion reigns brightest from end of January through mid-March, but after March 18, you may have cause to reconsider your actions and feel a need to pull back a notch while you meditate about the overall state of the relationship. Sexually, this looks like a very hot year, but I wonder if the heat simply blinds you—could the chemistry be just a little too good, Aries? Take time to know the person! Also, if you are attached but not that happy, don't stay if it's only for good sex. You're going to need a lot more than that to keep you interested! Why do I say this? I am seeing a big emphasis on sex in 1999 but less sustained planetary energy circulating in your true love sector. However, there is substantial emphasis on the commitment house in January, May, and June, which tells me at least some of you will be in love and push to the next level.
Aries who are already in committed relationships seem to have a particularly complex picture for 1999. Your ruler Mars does an about-face in your relationship sector during May and June, suggesting a period of confusion while you await your partner's response on an important issue. If your partner does not satisfy your powerful need this year to identify with your values and goals, you may lose interest in the relationship with the advent of the eclipses (discussed above). You have come through 30 months of wrangling with your partner, and when Saturn stops hammering your Sun sign in March, you may be left feeling wrung-out. It's ironic: just when your chances for success with your partner are greatest, anything less than wholehearted support from your partner will seem to you a day late and a dollar short. Being mentally fatigued, you will have less patience with your relationship. You are not going to put up with the same circular arguments. Either your partner shapes up or you'll be on the next boat out.
There are three important moments in 1999 when Saturn (stability and caution) opposes Mars (energy and aggression) and committed Aries will feel the most frustration : January 19, April 19, and August 11. The toughest of these is January 19, when you and your significant other simply do not see eye to eye. In January, you may want to take a slower course with the relationship, but it appears your partner is on a faster schedule. Notice that you've reversed your usual roles here. The other two points in time, in April and August, have to do with money and joint resources, and forces that oppose you.
Don't get me wrong, there is a strong possibility throughout 1999 for renewed closeness and reconciliation. The result lies in the characters of both you and your partner. I will say this: you seem unwilling to make up excuses for difficulties any more. That is a healthy sign that you will be able to take care of yourself from now on. When Saturn leaves your 7th sector on March 1, you will enjoy the relationships you choose to stay in much more. You may be in a new relationship or refresh an old one. One thing is certain: by time the new millennium begins, you will find yourself in a much happier place.
Finally, expect radiant health this year, far better than last year, when you may have been dragging your feathers. Saturn's move away from your Sun sign is a superb omen for vibrant vitality, better looks, and a more upbeat disposition. If you have any chronic health problems, you may see them abate. In short, dear Aries, you are going back to your old self—only better!

As you finish reading this forecast, be sure you keep in mind that Jupiter in Aries is a superb event, and marks a year ahead that is simply wondrous. You have endured so much in the past two-and-a-half years that the upbeat turn of events will surprise and delight you. When Jupiter slips into Taurus from July through most of October, you will be able to pull down the biggest salary you've ever seen. Finally, if any ups and downs occur in your love life or with your friends, a group or a child, realize those difficulties are due to growing pains rather than life going to the dogs. You will be alerted to what needs changing because the eclipses are staunchly on your side, working to help you see the unvarnished truth of the matter. If your closest relationship is strong, you will grow more intimate—a gratifying development, indeed. If you are unattached, expect to meet someone at the end of February, in early March or the first three weeks of April.
